Sinopsis
Antonio Carvajal (Albolote, Granada, 1945) Ph.D. in Romance Philology from the University of Granada and professor of metrics. Member of the Academy of Fine Literature of Granada. In 1990 he received the National Critics Award. Considered one of the greatest poets of contemporary Spanish poetry, he is the most outstanding and tireless author of the so-called Generation 70. His books have been regarded as the most intense and personal works among those appeared in recent decades. A remarkable innovator of the Andalusian poetic tradition, architect of a refined and innovative versification, since the publication of his first collection of poems he has faithfully followed the tone of baroque poetry. He has maintained his loyalty not only regarding the use of technical resources (he prefers to use the most complicated and the most evidently Gongorian and Quevedian rhetorical figures) but also concerning his approach to his themes, characterized by a deeply-rooted celebration of life, philosophy and cosmic love. However, it has to be noted that since the mid-80s the poetry of Antonio Carvajal has been also expressed in the formulas of popular poetry, without completely abandoning the above mentioned educated structures.
