Sinopsis
El Cantar del Mio Cid is the oldest preserved Spanish “Cantar de gesta” (songs of heroic deeds). Formerly, it was transmitted just orally, but at the end of the book it says that it was written down by a certain Per Abbat in 1207. A copy from it is held as part of a 14th century codex in the National Library. However, we ignore who is its real author. The title has been translated into English as The Lay of the Cid and The Song of the Cid. Being based on a true story, it tells of a Spanish hero the Cid or El Campeador, whose true name was Rodrigo (or Ruy) Díaz de Vivar during the Spanish reconquista from the Moors, when he fell into the disfavour of the king Alfonso VI and had to leave his home and regain king’s favour. We feel special proud of approaching this story to children, to let them know the characters and their adventures, in the same way that probably did the Jugulars centuries ago.
