Sinopsis
The law of the Kingdom of Mallorca is defined by the letter issued by James I on March 1, 1230, shortly after the conquest of the city. The letter reflects the peculiar laws of the island, later complemented with the customs of the new settlers and the common law. Its dispositions on criminal matters are scarce: it sets penalty for anyone drawing sword out of anger, it proclaims adultery to be a private crime, accepts the possibility of peaceful private settling of crimes, and permits to retain the thief in order to retrieve the object stolen. This work by Antonio Planas Rosselló, professor of the UIB, provides a full historical thread of criminal law from the period of the establishment of the Kingdom of Majorca.
