Entre la Fe y la Razón, del Barroco a la Ilustración.

Los murcianos del seiscientos, no limitaban su pensamieto y su concepción de la naturaleza a lugares teológicos comunes y a consuelos espirituales. La mayoría de ellos estarían de acuerdo con su obispo Diego Martínez Zarzosa cuando decía que "La ira divina castigaba manifiestamente a su mezquina grey", pero también la mayoría de ellos pensarían que de haber estado reparado el Malecón y de haber estado limpias las boqueras de las acequias, probablemente, el castigo divino con la riada de 1651 no hubiera sid otan grande. El pensamiento del murciano del siglo XVII no veía el medio natural en el que vivía sólo bajo el influjo de la voluntad de Dios. Era un pensamiento mucho más complejo. 

Synopsis
Murcians of the 17th century did not limit their thinking and their conception of nature to common theological places and spiritual consolations. Most of them would agree with their bishop Diego Martínez Zarzosa when he said that “The divine wrath clearly punished his petty flock”, but most of them would also think that if the Malecon had been repaired and the irrigation ditches had been cleaned, divine punishment with the flood of 1651 would probably not have been so great. The thought of the Murcian of the 17th century did not see the natural environment in which he lived only under the influence of God’s will. It was a much more complex way of thinking.
