Sinopsis
Extraordinary taxation, the result of negotiation between the monarch and several political bodies, became in the fifteenth century not only a key element of its system of finance but also one of the articulating axes of its political relationships. Through the analysis of the routes of the Cortes service -the pedido regio- and the contributions of the Holy Brotherhood (1406-1498) in the Kingdom of Seville, this book analyzes how this type of resources became a mechanism of integration of the councils in the springs of the State. A process not exempt from conflict, which becomes a privileged platform to understand this convulsive period and the transformation of power relationships within the cities. In them, the collection and management of these revenues allowed the municipal elites to stabilize and expand their domain. All this without losing sight of the social and economic impact that these fiscal figures had on the daily life of taxpayers in the city of Seville, then one of the richest and most dynamic of the Crown of Castile.
