This publications twofold purpose is to help stakeholders further their knowledge of NGOs and provide them with a series of tools for analysing their management and evaluating them. Given the diversity of organisations grouped under this denomination that are not NGOs ideologically, organisationally or formally, the indispensable starting point is clarifying a segment that is apparently well-known, but sketchily defined; the groups that make up NGOs must also be profiled as precisely as possible. Furthermore, the most general aspects of managing and evaluating an NGO are addressed, different applicable systems are reviewed and each essential component that serves as the basis for its evaluation and management are analysed. The series of indicators offered for analysing data from an NGOs performance serve as tools of support for meeting the informational and evaluative demands of donors, managers and other stakeholders, not only in terms of rendering accounts, but also as tools for decision-making in itself.
