Sinopsis
José Manuel Caballero Bonald (Jerez de la Frontera, November 11, 1926). Spanish writer and poet. Born from a Cuban father and a mother of French aristocratic descent, he studied philosophy and literature from 1949 to 1952 in Seville, and navigation and astronomy in Cádiz. In the same years he began to collaborate with the Cordoban magazine Cántico. He was a university professor in Bogotá and collaborated with Camilo José Cela and the project of the Institute of Lexicography of the Spanish Royal Academy. Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Cadiz. His work is characterized by the careful use of the language and a Baroque tone. He has obtained several awards including the Platero Award of Poetry (1950), Adonáis Award of Poetry for Las adivinaciones (1952), Boscán Award (1959), Award of the Critics, Prize of the Ateneo of Seville (1981), Andalusian Prize for Literature, Corresponding membership of the American Academy of Spanish Language (1993-1994), declared Hijo Predilecto de Andalucía (1997), Plaza y Janés Award, Julian Besteiro Prize of Arts and Letters and the Gold Medal of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid (1998-2000), Reina Sofia Prize for Latin-American Poetry for all his work (2004), National Award of the Spanish Literature (2005), Terenci Moix International Award for the best book of 2005, National Prize of Poetry in 2006.
