Sinopsis
Luis Alberto de Cuenca y Prado (Madrid, Spain, December 29, 1950), Spanish philologist, poet, essayist and translator. He started to read law at the Complutense University of Madrid, but then received his degree in Classical Philology in 1973. In 1976 he took his Ph.D. in Classical Philology. He was director of the Institute of Philology of the CSIC and of the National Library of Spain and Secretary of State for Culture during the right-wing government of José María Aznar. In his poetry the scholar and the creator merge with each other without any of the two being eclipsed by the other. Luis Alberto de Cuenca has offered in his volumes what has been called transculturalist poetics in contemporary Spanish poetry: an ironic and elegant lyricism, sometimes skeptical, sometimes lighthearted, in which the transcendental coexists with the everyday and the bookish with the popular. He uses both free and the traditional metrics. He has been director of the National Library in Madrid.
