Traducción y recepción universal de Benito Pérez Galdós: cien años después (1920-2020)

Sinopsis

The commemoration of the first centenary since the death of Benito Pérez Galdós in 1920 lies behind the purpose that made this book possible. The authors taking part in this publication project regard that their best homage must be based in two realities: both the fact that there are no translated complete works by Galdós in any language, and the fact that the high number of texts by Don Benito in translation constitutes a treasure that deserves and will deserve a detailed study on the part of Galdós scholars today and in coming years. But translation does not account for the the master’s full cultural and literary heritage. This book also seeks to approach a much wider phenomenon, that that relates to the reception or rewriting of the works by our writer, which includes labels such as adaptation, appropriation, imitation, inspiration, pastiche, criticism, etc., as well as all the spectrum covered under the denomination of translation. Consequently, any reader interested in this proposal, that aims to be the first of many other necessary ones, will find from unique testimonies of Pérez Galdós’s arrival in the Dutch, German, Italian or English linguistic areas, to the impact of Galdós in Almudena Grandes, a specific bibliography of translated texts by Pérez Galdós, or the first translation of the short story Rompecabezas for the first time into French and English.
