Sinopsis
Maria Beneyto is one of the most important figures in contemporary Valencian literature. She wrote in both Catalan and Spanish, excelling in poetry and narrative. She lived through the Spanish Civil War and the post-war period, experiences that deeply influenced her work. In poetry, she won awards such as the Valencia Prize for "Criatura múltiple" (1954) and the Barcelona City Prize for "Ratlles a l’aire" (1956). In the 1960s, she made a significant impact on narrative with works like "El río viene crecido" (1960), "La dona forta" (1967), and "Antigua patria" (1969). Later, she won the Ausiàs March Prize with "Vidre ferit de sang" (1977). In her later years, she continued publishing and received honors such as the Generalitat Valenciana Award for Literature. Her work reflects the diversity of female identity and combines both personal and collective experiences. "La dona forta" is considered her most emblematic novel and one of the most important works of 1960s Catalan literature.
The exhibition shows the outstanding role played by Maria Beneyto in Valencian literature, often distinguished by notable acknowledgements. However –as has happened with other women writers– her work has fallen into oblivion, silenced by time, a situation that needs to change by giving her the space she deserves.
